Calling All Curlers! - It's A Frozen Watersport

Coyotes Curling Club has have two great curling opportunities for you.

AN ANCIENT SPORT -- Curling is thought to have been invented in medieval Scotland, with the first written reference to a contest using stones on ice coming from the records of Paisley Abbey, Renfrewshire, in February 1541. Two paintings (both dated 1565) by Pieter Bruegel the Elder depict Dutch peasants curling — Scotland and the Low Countries had strong trading and cultural links during this period, which is also evident in the history of golf.

First of all, the Summer League has been announced! We are looking for a minimum of 32 curlers who want to get out of the heat and have some fun curling, regardless if you are a newbie or veteran of the game. With the exception of two dates, the nine-week league will be at 10 a.m. on Saturdays (See schedule below). This leaves you the rest of the day and all day Sunday to enjoy your weekends.

As you know, we are working at building our own dedicated facility. We are confident that there shouldn't be any trouble filling the league, but in an effort to ensure we do not spend funds needlessly, we are asking those who would like to curl in the Summer League to let us know of their intent right now.

We will be offering league curlers two options:

$200 per person includes nine weeks of league play (6/15 to 8/10)

$225 per person includes one learn-to-curl class on June 8 plus nine weeks of league play.

Please let Shawn Tait know by e-mail (shawntait@coyotescurling.com) if you are interested. Registration forms can be e-mailed to you or are available online. Both options are a great value and we have the necessary equipment needed to curl. Get your own four-person team out, come out as a couple, or come out on your own. No matter how you get here, just get here and you'll have a great time curling!

From 8 p.m.-10 p.m., we take to the ice and teach you how to curl Olympic style. The club provides all of the brooms and sliders needed to curl. The rate to curl per person is $30. Registration forms for the class are online and will be taken first come, first served, so don't delay in coming to throw your first curling rock or hone your existing skills.

Good curling!
