Michael Phelps closes out his Olympic medal haul with a record 22, 18 of them gold.

THE OLYMPIAN -- Michael Phelps, who has said he will retire from competitive swimming after the London Games, closed out his medal haul at the Summer Olympics with a final curtain call, swimming two laps of butterfly as a member of the United States’ victorious 4x100-meter medley relay team. He closed his fourth Olympics with 18 golds and a record 22 career medals, which, in modern Olympic history, would rank him in the top 60 — among countries.
