Pass This On To The Students You Know
Each year the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and its Auxiliary invite students to enter and express their appreciation of our veterans in writing, in recording, or in an art form.
Excerpts From A Letter From Laurie Sparwasser
Scholarship Program Chair
Hi! My name is Laurie Sparwasser. I am thrilled to chair the Scholarship Program again this year for President Marvie's "Boots on the Ground for Our Veterans" year. I really love this program of the VFW Auxiliary as I enjoy working with our students in the community.
This program shows us how the young people view Americanism and Patriotism with these scholarships. It is a way for them to reveal their views on these attributes to this great country.
The programs within Scholarship Program are the same as in the past – Continuing Education, the Young American Creative Patriotic Art contest, Voice of Democracy, and Patriot's Pen.
The Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen essay contests are due first – October 31st to the local Post (VFW Post 3513 c/o Carol Allen: Address: 7220 E Wilshire Dr, Scottsdale, AZ 85257 Questions? editor@azbw.com.)
The Young American Creative Patriotic Art contest is due to your Auxiliary by March 31, 2023. .
• The theme this year for the Voice of Democracy Essay is "Why is the Veteran Important?" A copy of the application is below for you to print, [fill in, and/or ] hand out to students.
• The Patriot's Pen essay contest theme this year is "My Pledge to our Veterans". The application for this contest is also below for you to print.
Hopefully, we can get this information to the students ... as soon as possible. It takes time for the students to get their ideas together, and the Voice of Democracy essay requires them to record their essay on a flash drive.
