Times Spent Outdoors: Priceless!
PHOENIX, August 29, 2022 – In observance of the Labor Day holiday, Tonto National Forest district ranger offices along with the Supervisor's Office will be closed Monday, Sept. 5, 2022.
Ranger district offices will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, Sept. 6 along with the Supervisor's Office. Note, the Supervisor's Office is only open Tuesdays and Thursdays due to a staffing shortage.
The Forest Service offers the following tips to help visitors safely enjoy their visit:
Campfires continue to be one of the leading causes of wildland fires in national forests. Do your part to help prevent wildfires.
Pack out what you bring with you. Be responsible for picking up and disposing of your trash. Debris and trash that is left behind can be harmful and even fatal to wildlife. It also represents a human health hazard. Bring a trash bag with you and be part of the solution by packing out your own garbage.
Know before you go! The public should anticipate increased crowds and plan trips in advance. The Tonto interactive recreation map and conditions report are available online at https://www.fs.usda.gov/recmain/tonto/recreation.
Increased monsoonal weather is impacting the Tonto. Visitors are urged to check the weather before heading out. Thunderstorms, which can be isolated in nature, can quickly materialize into torrential rain causing flooding in low-lying areas. Avoid washes and streams, and shelter in buildings during storms (avoid sheltering under trees).

Note - Most private businesses expecting a busy day will remain open.
