Bombora

Many boat owners understand the regulation of having lifejackets on board, but don't wear them regularly when on flat water because they're uncomfortable. The Adventurer from Bombora is different. Worn around the waist, it's barely noticeable. Yet when the worst happens, a pull of the activation cord instantly inflates it into a USCG-approved Type III PFD.

Despite its compact size of only 19" L x 7" H x 3" D, the Adventurer delivers 25 lbs. of buoyancy when inflated. Designed for chest sizes from 30" to 56", it's intended for anyone 16 years or older. This adaptability, combined with the Adventurer's low cost, means a boat owner can provide safety to everyone on board in comfort and style.

Using the Bombora Adventurer is straightforward. Pulling on the yellow handle activates the 24-gram CO2 cylinder. Once inflated, the device is slipped over the head. Reflective tape and an attached whistle provide the wearer the ability to help in their own recovery. A manual inflation tube can be used to provide added buoyancy. Once the cylinder is used, it's simple to rearm and repack. A video is at bit.ly/BomboraAdventurer.

With the Adventurer, there's no reason not to wear a PFD. It's lined with a soft, breathable neoprene-like fabric for all-day comfort. A zippered pocket, D-ring and front attachment loop offer ample places to secure small items. The Bombora Adventurer is available in two color combinations, blue and grey Quicksilver or teal and white Tidal. It costs $140.
