While the northern U.S. freezes in January, Lake Havasu City, the popular vacation destination on Arizona's West Coast, warmly greets visitors with a slate of fun events. Vintage trailers and VW buses will be on display; the Havasu 95 Speedway begins its race season; the Havasu Balloon Festival and Fair returns; and the rodeo comes to town. Here are two highlights:

Stay Mobile At The Lake Havasu Vintage Trailer Campout, Jan. 31-Feb. 2, 2019

Long before that smartphone appeared in your pocket and took over your life, the term "mobile" meant a bed on wheels. The 5th Annual Vintage Trailer Campout and its "Tin Can Tourists," as enthusiasts are affectionately known, will showcase vintage trailers such as the teardrop, a streamlined, compact, and lightweight travel trailer which gets its name from its teardrop profile. Location: Lake Havasu State Park, 699 London Bridge Rd.

Pure Magic: 23rd Annual Buses By The Bridge XXIII, Jan. 17, 2019

Who can forget the classic Volkswagen bus? Spanning the generations, it has evolved from a 1960s icon of the Baby Boomers to a concept electric vehicle with a millennial vibe. See dozens of classic VW buses arriving from all over the country for a giant campout at Lake Havasu State Park.

There's more to VW buses than you think. Look for Panel vans, seven- and nine-passenger Microbuses, Kombi's and Cab Pickups. Also featured: kids activities, a corn hole tournament, and pancake breakfast.
