KINGMAN, Ariz. — The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) will be conducting an off-highway vehicle (OHV) sobriety checkpoint from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 13 along Castle Hot Springs Road north of Lake Pleasant.

The purpose of the checkpoint is to detect and deter violations of Arizona’s laws regarding the operation of OHVs while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

A few OHV safety tips:

Never operate an OHV while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Helmets are required by law for riders under 18 (regardless of OHV type), but are strongly recommended for all riders.

Wear a seatbelt at all times (if equipped).

Only carry the number of passengers recommended by the OHV manufacturer. Many accidents occur when the number of passengers exceeds the maximum for which the vehicle was designed.

Wear riding goggles, a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, riding gloves and over-the-ankle boots.

Never ride alone.

Be equipped with a map, first-aid kit and whistle, as well as a few basic tools to make repairs.

Stay on designated trails.

Complete an OHV safety education course.
