Tonto National Forest Announces Fee-Free Days

The Tonto National Forest joins other federal land management agencies in honoring the fee-free program, which is under the Federal Lands Recreation Act.

The Tonto is waiving fees at the developed picnic sites. Fees will still apply at developed campgrounds, boat launch ramps, shorelines, and concessionaire-operated sites.

Two remaining 2016 fee-free days that will be honored are —

• September 24 - National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort supporting public lands

• November 11 - Veterans Day, commemorating the end of World War I by paying tribute to military heroes, past and present

Encouraging use of public lands supports the goals of President Obama’s America’s Great Outdoors, an effort with a premise that protecting the nation’s natural heritage is a non-partisan objective shared by all Americans.

America’s Great Outdoor turns to communities for local, grassroots conservation initiatives and seeks to rework inefficient policies and to make the federal government a better partner with states, tribes, and local communities.
