Recipients of 2016 Governor's Heritage Honor Awards Announced

(Phoenix, AZ - May 18, 2016) - The 2016 Historic Preservation Conference Planning Partners have announced the recipients of the Governor's Heritage Honor Awards that will be presented at the 2016 Historic Preservation Conference https://azpreservation.com/ at the Crowne Plaza Phoenix Airport Hotel, 4300 East Washington Street in Phoenix, on June 10, 2016 at 12 p.m.

The Preservation Awards Luncheon is the signature event of the 14th Annual Arizona Historic Preservation Conference. Since 1982, the Arizona Preservation Foundation and Arizona State Historic Preservation Office/Arizona State Parks have collaborated to present the Governor's Heritage Preservation Honor Awards. These awards recognize people, organizations, and projects that represent outstanding achievements in preserving Arizona's prehistoric and historic resources.

The mission of the Governor's Heritage Preservation Honor Awards is to:

* Promote public awareness of historic preservation in the state of Arizona.

* Publicly recognize the varied contributions by volunteers, professionals, organizations, and agencies to promote the goals of historic preservation.

* Identify and recognize educational, community, non-profit, and private-sector heritage projects that demonstrate excellence in design and execution.

GRAND HONOR AWARD WINNER:

The Grand Award Winner is selected by Governor Doug Ducey from the 2016 Honor awardees, and will be announced at the close of the award ceremony. Governor Ducey is not expected to be in attendance. Huh?

In addition, the Governor's Archaeological Advisory Commission's (GAAC) Awards in Public Archaeology will also be awarded at this luncheon. They will be announced later this month.
