Western Outdoor Times - Times Spent Outdoors: Priceless!

The Arizona Center for Nature Conservation | Phoenix Zoo and the Arizona Game and Fish Department are pleased to team up for this new educator professional development opportunity for teachers of all grade levels. Join us this summer as we explore how Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) are used in wildlife management and conservation. This problem-based workshop takes place over five days and consists of two parts to inspire critical thinking and analysis in the classroom.

During the first section, participants spend four days gaining first-hand experience and knowledge directly from the experts, seeing examples of STEM in the field and discuss ways to bring it back into the classroom. For the final section, participants are asked to design a lesson inspired by their experience and share it with other participants.

The workshop takes place at the Phoenix Zoo and includes field trips to experience STEM in action within a variety of conservation programs. Dates are June 22 through 25 and July 25, 2015. Participants are expected to attend all sessions. Sessions generally run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Times vary slightly on field trip days and some travel of up to two hours may be involved to accommodate these unique opportunities. Participants will earn at least 30 CEUs.

Cost is $65 for Phoenix Zoo members and $75 for the general public. This cost includes a number of resources. Spots are limited, so register early. Deadline to register is June 8, 2015.
