America's Wild Horses and Burros Offered for Adoption in Kingman

Kingman, Ariz. – Approximately 20 wild horses and burros, representing the spirit of the historic West, will be available in Kingman, Arizona, on September 12 - 15, 2013, to qualified adopters. Sponsored by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the Wild Horse and Burro event will offer a variety of animals of different ages and sexes.

The Kingman adoption event will take place at the Mohave County Fairgrounds, located at

2600 Fairgrounds Boulevard, Kingman, Arizona, 86401. Take Interstate 40 to Kingman, exit E. Andy Devine (U.S Route 66, exit 53), turn south on E. Andy Devine travel .6 miles and turn right (west) on Airfield Ave. Travel approximately .6 miles and enter the fairgrounds through the east entrance.

Thursday, September 12 – Open noon to 5 p.m.

Starting at noon, the adoption begins for approved adopters on a first-come, first-select basis. The adoption fee is $125.

Adoption fees may be made by cash, check, or major credit card and will be processed immediately after selection. The BLM staff will load each animal, with the adopter’s halter and lead rope, into an acceptable trailer provided by the adopter.

The BLM offers wild horses and burros gathered from public lands in the West to qualified adopters who must demonstrate humane care for the animal for a year in order to receive title. To qualify to adopt, you must be 18 years of age, have approved facilities to keep the animal, and transportation home for the animal from the adoption site.
