San Tan, AZ - Ranger Adam's Sunset Celebration

San Tan Mountain Regional Park Has some exciting news as well as fun events for August. We are getting a new Ranger at San Tan as I have accepted a once in a lifetime opportunity to research sea turtles in Costa Rica. Over the last three years I have greatly enjoyed becoming part of this amazing community and I am extremely appreciative for the opportunities to connect with you. Ranger Adam has answered the call of the wild and will be headed to Costa Rica to start research on leatherback sea turtles. This exhilarating adventure brings an emotion filled conclusion to an amazing three years for Adam at San Tan. Be part of a heartwarming farewell hike and find out all the exciting details of what is in store for Ranger Adam.

Movie Madness

Wednesday, August 7, 10a.m.-12p.m.

Sit back, relax and enjoy a cinematic adventure on San Tan’s very own HUGE projector screen. Watch this amazing movie in the cool air-conditioned nature center surrounded by a friendly collection of desert wildlife. Bring your snacks, blankets and pillows to watch this exciting movie in style.

Bug Bonanza

Friday, August 9, 8p.m.-9:30p.m.

Join us on a bug adventure in the desert! First we will start off with a presentation on different types of bugs that live in the desert and then we will get up close and personal with some special friends brought to us by bug experts from ASU. Next, we will try our luck finding creepy crawlers around the trails. This is a hit with the kids and you will be surprised how much you will enjoy it too! Bring flashlights, nets if you have them and go easy on the bug spray!! Bug guides will be on hand. Meet at the Nature Center.

This program is part of the “County Parks are getting Wet ‘n’ Wild this summer” series and we will be raffling off a family-four pack at the end of the program.

Perseids Meteor Shower Viewing

Saturday, August 10, 9p.m.-10p.m.

It’s the biggest meteor shower of the year and San Tan wants you to keep your eyes on the skies. Bring your blankets and chairs and look up at a beautiful night sky surrounded by the wonderful sights and sounds of the Sonoran Desert. Enjoy an exciting talk as Ranger Adam points you around the universe and tells you the stories of the stars.

Snake Feeding

Saturday, August 17, 2p.m.-3p.m.

What has no legs, 2 fangs and launches a strike in less than half a second? Come find out as we feed our venomous creatures and snakes in a jaw dropping display of predator meets prey.

Moonlight Hike

Saturday, August 17, 8p.m.-9:30p.m.

Discover the beauty of the Sonoran Desert at night, as we hike under the light from the near full moon. Join us for a pristine 2.2-mile stroll along the Stargazer Trail. Listen for the sounds of wildlife and explore the night-life atmosphere. The pace of the hike will be relatively mild or slow to help enjoy the surroundings. Flashlights are welcomed.

San Tan Shredders Night Ride

Thursday, August 22, 7p.m.-8:30p.m.

Join an exciting new mountain bike meet up group at San Tan. Riders of all levels are encouraged to meet at the main trailhead at the designated time. Once everyone has arrived, we will have a brief chat about the latest in mountain biking news and go for a quick warm up ride as a group. Once our muscles are warm we will break up into beginner, intermediate and advanced groups to conquer the amazing trails of San Tan at night. This is an excellent opportunity to learn new skills, meet local riders, exercise, and just have fun. Please bring plenty of water your bike, 2 sources of light, and a helmet.
