FIRE NAME: Dean Peak Fire

LOCATION: The fire is located approximately 10 miles east of Kingman, Arizona, in the Hualapai Mountains, east of Dean Peak.

TIME REPORTED: June 29, 2013, at 3:30 p.m.

ACRES BURNED: Approximately 908 acres

RESOURCES: There are currently several engines, 3 Type I crews, 1 Type II crew, 1 Type II helicopter, 1 air attack, 2 air tankers, and overhead personnel totaling approximately 100 people. Additional resources are en route including the Northern Arizona Type II Incident Management Team.

LAND STATUS: Bureau of Land Management (BLM)

VEGETATION: Brush, pinion, juniper, and sporadic pines

WEATHER: Extreme weather conditions will continue today with potentially erratic winds due to thunderstorms forecasted throughout Mohave County.

RESOURCES AND STRUCTURES THREATENED: There is a mandatory evacuation for the Pine Lake community. The Pinion Pine community and communication sites on Getz Peak continue to be threatened at this time.

CONTAINMENT: No containment at this time.

CAUSE: Lightning

CLOSURES: Old Highway 93 is closed and Hualapai Mountain Road is closed to Pine Lake. DW Ranch Road and Blake Ranch Road are also closed except for local residents. Wild Cow Campground will be closed until further notice.

CURRENT STATUS: Today, air tankers will drop retardant on the fire while firefighters will work on structure protection in the Pine Lake and Pinion Pine communities and communication sites on Getz Peak. Smoke from the fire will continue to be present in the surrounding communities.
