Power Outage at Phantom Ranch Causes Temporary Closure

January 1, 2016

Grand Canyon, Ariz. – Early Saturday morning, January 23, Phantom Ranch located at the bottom of Grand Canyon, experienced a power outage. Arizona Public Service (APS) is working to locate the fault in the line and restore power.

Due to the prolonged power outage at Phantom Ranch, a concession operated by Xanterra South Rim LLC, the Ranch closed to guests on Sunday, January 24. Xanterra is notifying guests with upcoming reservations and assisting them in making alternative arrangements. If you have questions about an existing reservation at Phantom Ranch please call Xanterra at (928) 638-3283.

Bright Angel Campground remains open at this time to hikers with a valid permit. All thru-hikers and overnight guests at the campground should be prepared to carry and/or treat all drinking water. Hikers should also be prepared to carry food as the Phantom Ranch Cantina is closed.

It is anticipated that Phantom Ranch will re-open to guests once power is restored and all health and safety checks are completed.
