Women's Wilderness Escape

It's For All Women From All Walks Of Life

April 15, 2014

The National Rifle Association (NRA) Women's Wilderness Escape provides women 18 and older with an eight-day getaway opportunity to experience the softer side of firearm education with exposure to a wide variety of shooting sports activities and an array of enticing hunting and outdoor related activities.

Whether you are a novice or a seasoned outdoor enthusiast, it's an experience that will prepare you for your next adventure.

No experience is necessary, and all firearms and ammunition are provided for you. You'll learn to shoot small bore rifle silhouette, scoped/tactical carbine, long range high power rifle, conventional and tactical pistol, historic firearms and shotgun (five-stand).

Upon completion of training in the pistol, shotgun and rifle disciplines, attendees earn the NRA First Steps Firearm Certificates.

Attendees will also learn archery, tree stand safety and participate in a mock hunt. Completion of these three events will earn participants the Bow Hunter Education Certificate. Successful completion of a recognized bow hunter education course is often required in addition to your hunting license in many states and provinces. This also applies to special designated bow hunting areas, and some federal lands and urban bow hunting areas.

Other activities may include survival training, game calling and laser shot. Your adventure at the NRA Whittington Center will also include a wine social to benefit the NRA Women's Wilderness Escape Events!

NRA's Whittington Center

Attendees will be guided by some of the most skilled firearms instructors and outdoor specialists in the country. And, it all happens at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, NM.

The NRA Whittington Center is, without a doubt, the finest shooting complex in the nation. Its 33,000 acres nest among the scenic western mountains and high mesa country of New Mexico. While staying at the Whittington Center, you'll share a room in the Competitor Housing Complex, eat in the dining facility and anticipate the unscheduled early morning and evening escapades of the deer, elk and antelope that call the Center home.

Food, housing, guns, ammunition, targets, classes, evening activities, instructors, demonstrations and adventures are all included in the $1,800 fee.

Participants provide their own transportation to and from the Whittington Center and during the event. There are two sessions offered, limited to 60 women per session. Reservations fill quickly, so grab a friend and come join us for the annual NRA Women's Wilderness Escape!

Session 1 will be held Sept. 20-27

Session 2 will be held Sept. 28 – Oct. 5
